Baume et Mercier

Baume et Mercier will celebrate its 200th anniversary very soon. In the meantime, its watchmakers continue to amaze customers with sublime and original creations. The creativity and visionary side of the brand allow it to offer elegant luxury watches today.

A family history

The history of Baume et Mercier began in 1830. The Baume family set up the first watchmaking counter in Les Bois with several small workshops. The two eldest sons ensured the prosperity of the family business by creating watches of superior quality. Since then, each creation of the company has been designed to be at the forefront of the technological advances of their time.

In 1840, the Baume brothers were the first to adopt the Lépine caliber, a movement typical of the brand's flat and reliable watches. Subsequently, Baume et Mercier conquered the entire British Empire with unparalleled success and fame. In 1892, the keyless chronometer watch with a tourbillon escapement became one of the brand's most emblematic models.

The company kept the name Baume for a long time. It was in 1918 that William Baume joined forces with Paul Mercier to conquer the women who were becoming emancipated. Thus was born Baume et Mercier with quickly certified movements of the hallmark of Geneva. In 1920, the company produced the largest number of hallmarked movements.

The emblematic collections of Baume et Mercier

Towards the end of the Second World War, Baume & Mercier designed a jewel watch model inserted in a rigid bracelet. The Marquise became a reference for women's watches and remained a best-seller until the 1960s. The company preserved its avant-garde style and in 1971 adopted electric tuning fork movements, the precursors of quartz movements.

The following year, the brand triumphed with its numerous models of women's watches. Mimosa and Galaxie were awarded the Golden Rose prize at the International Watchmaking and Jewelry Competition in Baden-Baden. The Riviera was launched in 1973 with its steel dial and sporty style. This collection became a flagship model for the brand.

Modern watches with an antique spirit

Today, the company is part of the Richemont group and continues its creativity with several successful watches. The current collections are intended for men and women of all styles. Hampton, Clifton, Linea, Classima or Capeland are inspired by the tradition of the house, while offering a brand new vision.

Today, Baume et Mercier watches are sold at a very competitive price with unparalleled quality. To pay tribute to the brand's watchmaking expertise and to present its new visions, it has designed William Baume Collection, the most recent collection.
